Smoky Mountain Chapter #512
Maynardville, Tennessee
The thoughts and words of RJ Miller.
Mary Beth- I love you trucker.
Why is it that until someone is gone, you never really realize what they mean to you in your life? He was a friend, family, husband, and boss? Unfortunately, for everyone Friday January 14, 2011; it was time for another realization. What is there to say about someone that I was PROUD to call my friend, Harry “Sonny” White?
I met Sonny through work; we spent about two minutes together before we started joking back and forth with each other. How was I to know that from that small moment in time my life would be changed so much? From that one brief encounter at work I was lucky enough to share a portion of that man’s life. I was privileged to know him and the caring and fun loving person he was.
He had a love for his wife, his friends, motorcycling, NASCAR and life. He honestly lived and got away with more than any of us could or will get away with. If something was on his mind, you didn’t have to wonder if you knew what it was- you got to hear him tell it to you; in whatever details or photos he felt like sharing with you so you got the point. If there was a time when you were feeling down and needed a shoulder to cry on; all you had to do was call and he would tell you to kiss any number of portions of his body. Now don’t get me wrong, he cared and listened- but he made you realize that that one thing did not matter.
He never met a stranger, I was with him several times when he met a friend for the first time, but he never met a stranger. Sonny just had a way of making you not really part of his family, but part of him. You felt so connected to him that it was just a true joy to share time with him.
He would do things just to get a reaction and where it went from there, only Sonny knew.
The rough, tough, pain in the butt was a caring man. He volunteered his time and money with Give Kids the World. This biker that would tell you to F off and kiss things was so caring that he was a volunteer with kids. Volunteers through Give Kids the World from other countries even had the pleasure of sharing time with Sonny, although the English he did not teach them well, Sonny taught them you can take it from there.
Do you know his favorite movie was The Sound of Music, a musical? This from a man who I know is sitting at breakfast in Heaven talking to Dale Earnhardt about how his son sucks at racing and he needs to kick him in the butt.
I think that I could type about him until the internet was full.
Brother, Dad and one of my truly best friends – I miss and will miss you forever!
